Daniel Cullen, who recently finished a one-year placement as a Programme Assistant with QUNO (Quaker United Nations Office), spoke of his work in Geneva, specifically with Quaker concerns for the rights of children whose parents were incarcerated and facing the death penalty. This related to work undertaken at the U.N. Human Rights Council and Committee on the Rights of the Child. He also spoke about Quaker work on the Nelson Mandela Rules, new international standards regulating the treatment of prisoners worldwide.

The talk was at our regular monthly shared lunch, on Dec. 4, 2016.

Hammersmith members joined more than 300 other
demonstrators at Willesden Crown Court on 24 February 2016 to await sentencing of the ‘Heathrow 13’ , members of the Plane
Stupid campaign fighting to prevent all further runway expansions in the UK as part of their climate change action. The protestors broke into Heathrow airport in July 2015 and chained themselves to fences next to the runway, stopping flights for six hours. They were given six- week jail sentences, suspended for a year, plus 120 plus hours of community service.
